In the past - adding an under drive crank pulley to an 85-87 V-6 Fiero meant the alternator would not really put out enough amperage for normal use. The 1988 V-6 Fiero featured a higher output alternator and benefits from a power pulley kit. Many who have put an under drive pulley on their 85-87 Fiero V-6 were unhappy with this lower alternator output. To remedy this I have developed a power pulley kit that retains approximately the same alternator output. This kit includes the special smaller OD alternator pulley, idler pulley, smaller hard anodized aluminum crank pulley and the two shorter belts. Easy to bolt on. Adding this power pulley kit reduces the speed of the water pump and A/C compressor. It eliminates the need to over tighten the alternator to stop belt slippage and squealing. Reducing the speed of the water pump and alternator is OK on the 85-87 V-6 Fiero. The water pump will still be sufficient for cooling. This frees up some horsepower. The biggest advantage I found was when using the A/C. By turning the A/C compressor slower it takes much less horse power to run the A/C and the A/C is still more than sufficient in the cabin of a Fiero. This kit can also be used on all 85-87 Fiero V-6's without A/C.
The idler pulley is included in every power pulley kit for the 85-87 V-6 Fiero. Without the idler and the smaller alternator pulley would certainly promote belt slippage.
Add consider adding my steel alternator reinforcement plate to reduce breakage of the cast aluminum alternator bracket.
